TITLE : Passion - Catalyst For Leadership 2
Psalms 119 : 139 "My zeal (passion) has consumed me..." Emphasis added mine
Revelation 3:19 "As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent"
Almost nothing great in life or invention has ever been achieved without passion. Think of our Lord Jesus, Apostle Paul, Winston Churchill in the darkest days of WWII, Lincoln in the Civil War. Great writers and artists have passion. Our most innovative business leaders, people like Steve Jobs , have it. Passion is without any doubt the secret weapon to make life more fun, live your dream and reach your goals and purpose. A key in life is to channel the intense desire and enthusiasm to get where you want to go. What drives leaders towards the fulfillment of their purpose. The answer is simple—passion.
Passion, not money, is one of the key drivers of success. Winning athletes aren’t philosophical, talented and they’re not intellectual. But, damn, they are passionate!
But What is passion?
Urban Dictionary defines Passion as "when you put more energy, commitment or fire into something than is required to do it. It is more than just enthusiasm or excitement, passion is ambition that is materialized into action to put as much heart, mind, body and soul into something as is possible” emphasis added mine.
Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you. It is the desire to keep seeking and learning. It is what makes people forget how much time they have spent working on a project. Attitude determines what you believe you can do. But passion determines what you want to do and how well you do it!. A consuming passion is the last thing you think about before you go to bed at night and the first thing you think about when you wake up. It feels like an addiction, and if someone told you to stop, it would be impossible for you to give it up." Passionate people don't really care if they are getting paid to do it or not. It's a part of their purpose, their calling in life, and without it, something is missing. Passion, turns "have-to’s into want-to’s.
Passion is "the essense of commitment." Passion is that which deeply stirs us. It's the fire from within and that which motivates, inspires, energizes, fortifies us. When passion is missing, our actions lack meaning and we don't get the results we want ... passion is the seed from which commitment blossoms." Lack of commitment to a cause or goal is the absence of passion. I've noticed that impassionate people do not show leadership values like commitment, devotion, loyalty e.t.c. In today's overscheduled world, is it hard to carve out some time to do things you truly love? It certainly can be. Lastly, it's important to remember that passion requires fuel to grow and one of the best ways to get that fuel is to share it with others. "Just like a plant needs water, your passion needs to be nurtured a little bit every day in order for it to grow to the point where it becomes obvious to you and the rest of the world. If you’re going to win today, if you’re going to win in life, you’ve got to be passionate about what you’re doing.” Passion is the language of triumph. When you feel impassioned about your aspirations, you don’t wait for things to happen — you make them happen.
