TITLE : RELATIONSHIPS 101 PART 4
In a similar way, you husbands must live with your wives in an understanding manner, as with a most delicate partner...... 1 Peter 3:7 ISV
Nothing will influence your callings, destiny, giftings, ministry as much as the important relationships in your life. People can trace the successes and failures in their lives to their most significant relationships. A leader's acceleration (growth, success) is determined by his association. The greatest source of human joy and pain is found in the drama of love and relationships. How are you doing when it comes to relationship or being relational? You can become a better people person. That's the essence of leadership. This article basically deals with people or relational skills.
There are few things I believe can help a leader build a stronger relationship with people. They are love, understanding, listening, respect, trust time. Yesterday we considered love as the heart of leadership. Today we'll look at understanding people as a key to building relationship.
Understanding People & Relationships
The ability to understand people can be a major success factor in every area of your life. In particular, it can have a huge impact on your relationship with people. Understanding is key to building relationship. Someone once told me that love is the principal thing to build any form of relationship but obviously he was wrong. Love is an essential factor in any relationship but it cannot build. What builds a relationship?
Proverbs 24:3 "Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established"
Choose To Understand Others
You'll need wisdom and understanding to build anything in life. Understanding is the raw material that builds. Understanding people is the key to motivating and influencing people in a positive way. Wisdom is a function of maturity (Luke 2:52). I observed that failure in any form of relationship is a result of poor understanding of people. Few things will pay you bigger dividends than the time and trouble you take to understand people. Almost nothing will add more to your stature as a leader. In the end, the ability to understand people is a choice. It's true that some people are born with great instinct that enable them to understand how others think and feel. But even if you aren't instinctively a people person, you can improve your ability to work with others. Every person is capable of having the ability to understand, motivate, inspire and ultimately influence others. Perhaps you've heard ladies say "the guy doesn't just understand me me me..." Everyone wants to be understood and once you make understanding people your goal you'll be able to inspire and influence them.
Understanding makes a leader outstanding.
Everybody can be somebody when somebody understand and believes in them. Everybody needs friendship and encouragement and help.
To understand how someone is feeling, imagine how you will feel in their situation. The chances are very good they are experiencing the same emotion. Choose to understand people.
Reflection : Can you think of anyone who, through understanding you in some way, has had a major impact on your life?
