TITLE : RELATIONSHIPS 101 PART 5
Why are Relationships important to leadership?
Relationships are the glue that holds team members together. The more solid the relationships, the more cohesive the team and the greater the teamwork. Leaders know that team work is essential for success and it is a result of leadership built on solid relationship.
Andrew Carnegie defines team work...
"Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results."
This article teaching series is divided into the following three sections :
•The nature of relationships
•The Building blocks of relationship
•The Growth of relationship.
The world is not made up of things – it is made up of relationships. We achieve results or success primarily through relationships. Relationships are truly the most effective pathway to the highest levels of commitment, loyalty, creativity, and performance within organizations. The reason is that positive relationships have a transformational impact on any individual. They draw out the best in each of us. In fact, leaders can be best measured by their ability to create “social capital” – the sum total of all their relationships. You can trace the success and failure in your life to your significant relationships.
Life is a matter of dealing with other people, in little matters and cataclysmic ones, and that means building a strong relationship. Leadership is about magnetic communication. Leaders have a way of communicating that draws people toward the vision. I think you have to work with people, and managing relationships can be a great asset and when I talk about managing relationships, don’t think the derogatory ‘‘managed relationships”. It is a question of sharing emotion and feelings.
Leaders need a better understanding of the dynamics of relationship formation because everyone like being around leaders who value relationship- loved them and connected with them. However successful you are, there is no substitute for a close relationship. We all need them. Every successful individual knows that his or her achievement depends on a community of persons working together. No matter how much success you’re having, you can’t continue working together if you can’t build relationships.
