TITLE : The Power & Discipline Of Vision 7
Proverbs 29:18 "Where there is no vision, the people perish (show lack of discipline or lack of focus)." Emphasis added mine
A person without discipline (focus) is like a city with broken-down walls. Proverbs 25:28 (NLT)
Our world needs leaders who are disciplined people. The highest form of discipline is self discipline. In fact, only the self disciplined have earned the right to discipline others. Those who have excelled in this quality will command the respect of others. Discipline like i shared in the previous episodes means imposing high standards and strict parameters on yourself for the sake of fulfilling your purpose & vision.
If you want to be an effective leader, you have to discipline yourself to be loyal, committed consistent, stable and self possessed.
Today I want to share with you another critical meaning of discipline. Discipline is not just limited to control of one's base desire.
WHAT IS DISCIPLINE?
Discipline is a specific branch of knowledge or learning; an area of study or specialization. In essence discipline is a specific field of study. For instance if you're really good at word origins, you might want to make etymology your discipline. In higher education your course of study is your discipline. If I ask you what are you studying? I am literally saying what's your discipline? In the university your discipline determines the courses you will offer. You don't expect an engineering students to know much about anatomy because that's not his discipline. This applies to leaders.
Your discipline is what you focus your life on.
As a leader it is imperative you find "one thing" you're supposed to master or concentrate. This is what I term your "discipline." Vision releases focus and discipline. Your discipline should incorporates your primary purpose in life. Your area of discipline is your area of unique gifting.
In essence your discipline is your purpose.
As a leader you must be known for one thing and not many things. Jesus told Martha "one thing is needful." Successful leaders are master of a specific discipline. Don't be a jack of all trade, master of none. There is a statement peculiar to great leaders... Paul said "This one thing I do"
As a leader you must be known for one thing, (not many things) a specific gifting or message that incorporates your unique purpose in life. God didn't designed you to do all things. Paul said " I can do all things through Christ but He didn't say he will do all things" Find the one thing or gifting you excel in and concentrate on developing it. Like Martha don't be preoccupied with too many things. Instead find that one unique gift and serve others with it.
IMPACT OF VISION ON LEADERSHIP
One major impact of capturing a vision is that it helps you releases focus, it helps you identify your discipline (an area or field of study) and it also helps to simplify your life. When you capture a vision it simplifies your life because vision control all your choices after that. Once you know where you are going, you also know automatically what road (choices, attitudes, relationship, education, friendship) won't take you there. Did you get that statement??
If you know what to do you automatically know what you shouldn't do. Vision is the source of discipline and it defines your "what to do." It determines what you do in life.
If you want to become an effective leader don't try to do many things, find that one thing (discipline) you're willing to live for.
Seed : Vision helps you identify your discipline.
