TITLE : The Power & Discipline Of Vision 8
Proverbs 29:18 "Where there is no vision, the people perish (show lack of discipline or lack of focus)." Emphasis added mine
A person without discipline (focus) is like a city with broken-down walls. Proverbs 25:28 (NLT)
Discipline is a specific branch of knowledge or learning; an area of study or specialization. In essence discipline is a specific field of study.
It is imperative as leaders to find that discipline you're supposed to concentrate and master. You were not born to do everything. Vision is the source of discipline. And one attribute of a vision is that it is simple, achievable, precise, easy to read and understand. Your discipline should incorporate your primary and unique purpose in life. No one can truly be successful without discipline. In this context the word "discipline" means to find the one thing you excel in and concentrate on developing it.
HOW DO I FIND MY DISCIPLINE??
What you studied in the university is not your true discipline. Your life is far more than that!!
Discipline means to discover your area of unique gifting in life that incorporates your primary purpose in life. You truly become a leader when you discover the one thing God wants you to do. Thus your discipline is your area of gifting which points to your purpose in life and your area of gifting is your area of leadership. So if I ask you what's your discipline I'm asking you what is the one thing you are born to do and accomplish.
Discovering your purpose in life also mean you identify your specific field of study or discipline.
How is the fulfillment of vision meant to work in practical terms?
Proverbs 18:16 is a powerful statement that reveals the answer: "A man's gift (discipline) makes room for him" (NKJV).
What you were designed to be known for is your gift not the degrees you earn in education. It is interesting to note here that the Bible does not say that a man's education or degrees makes room for him, but that his gift does. Somehow we have believed that education is the key to success. Our families and societies have reinforced this idea to us, but we will have to change our perspective if we are to be truly successful. Education is not the key to success.
Don't misunderstand me. I believe in education neither I'm I belittling it's importance in this 21st century world. However, if education were the key to success, then everyone who has a Ph.D. would be successful but is that always true? Education, in itself, doesn't guarantee anything. It is your gift that is the key to your success.
God has put a unique gift or talent in every person that the world will make room for. In fact one major aspect of leadership is you discovering that gift. It is this gift that will enable you to fulfill your vision. It will make a way for you in life. It is in exercising this gift that you will find real fulfillment, purpose, and contentment in your life as a man. However, your area of discipline is your area of unique gifting. When you find & exercise your gift and make it your discipline not only will the world make room for you, but it will also pay you for it. Anyone - yourself included - who discovers his or her gift and develops it will become a commodity.....
Seed : Your area of gifting is your discipline.
