TITLE : CULTIVATE A TEACHABLE SPIRIT 2
Proverbs 26:12 :
"Do you see a man who is wise (not teachable) in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him." emphasis added mine
It is sad to observe someone who has at least one half of his life remaining who feels he has no more to learn. Great leadership requires a teachable spirit. This teaching series addresses the critical importance of a teachable spirit and a consistent, lifelong personal and professional attitude of teachability. Teachability is not an inherited condition as far as learning is concerned, it is not so much about competence and mental capacity as it is about attitude.
#1 leadership expert in the world, John Maxwell writes, “people often ask me what most determines if they will reach their potential. My answer: a teachable spirit.”
As never before, all leaders must humbly, openly, and consistently demonstrate and model a teachable spirit. Teachability is a critical element of a successful culture. “You must have a teachable spirit. If you don’t, you will come to the end of your potential long before you come to the end of your life. If you want to be successful tomorrow, then you must be teachable today. Leaders need more than a great mind for learning. They need to have a great heart for learning and that requires an attitude of teachability. Remember, the greatest enemy of learning is knowing. And the goal of all learning is action, not knowledge. The most important leadership skill to acquire is learning how to learn. Here is what I suggest as you pursue teachability. Learn to listen.
