TITLE : CULTIVATE A TEACHABLE SPIRIT 6
Proverbs 26:12 :
"Do you see a man who is wise (not teachable) in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him." emphasis added mine
#2 Teachable leaders are humble
The greatest stature anyone can ever come into in the realm of the spirit is humility. - Rick Joyner
Humility isn't just a trait leaders should cultivate it is also the mark of spirituality, test of greatness. Those who will be used by God must pass this humility test. If you can't descend in the kingdom you can't ascend in the kingdom.
Today i'll love to re-emphasize what humility truly means. I really want you to understand what it means to be humble. What is humility??
The word "Humility" and humble have their origin in the Latin word humilis , meaning "low." The Bible describes humility as meekness, lowliness and absence of self. The Greek word translated “humility” in Colossians 3:12 and elsewhere literally means “lowliness of mind,” so we see that humility is a heart attitude or a mindset or thinking, not merely an outward demeanor. One may put on an outward show of humility but still have a heart full of pride and arrogance.
•Humility is also an acknowledgment that our talents and abilities are gifts from God. The major fundamental principle of stewardship is "we don't truly own anything that we have" understanding this ministers humility.
• Humility also mean giving or transferring more glory and honor to others better than ourselves (Philipian 2:3 NCV)
Pride destroys relationships. It shows up in a lot of different ways, like criticism, competition, stubbornness, and superficiality. The problem with pride is it’s self-deceiving. Everybody else can see it in us but us. When you have a problem with pride, you don’t see it in your life.
Proverbs 16:18 says, “Pride leads to destruction; a proud attitude brings ruin” (NCV). I love this verse in the Message paraphrase: “First pride, then the crash — the bigger the ego, the harder the fall.”
Jesus said that those who are “poor in spirit” would inherit the kingdom of heaven. Being poor in spirit means that only those who admit to an absolute bankruptcy of spiritual worth will inherit eternal life. Therefore, humility is a prerequisite for the Christian leader.
Biblical humility is not only necessary to enter the kingdom, it is also necessary to be great in the kingdom ( Matthew 20:26-27 ). Here Jesus is our model. Just as He did not come to be served, but to serve, so must we commit ourselves to serving others in all lowliness of mind, always considering others better than ourselves ( Philippians 2:3 ). This attitude precludes selfish ambition, conceit, and the strife that comes with self-justification and self-defense. The truly humble does not defend himself when falsely accused or unjustly treated. He defends the truth, but not his own ego or reputation. Jesus was not ashamed to humble Himself as a servant (John 13:1-16 ).
How do I become a humble leader?
It's so simple and easy. The basic law of relationships is this: You tend to become like the people you spend time with. If you spend time with grumpy people, you get grumpier. If you spend time with happy people, you get happier. If you want to have more humility, spend time with the greatest leader - Jesus Christ. He is the greatest example of humility. He wants a fellowship with you. He wants you to spend time with him in prayer and studying His Word and talking to him. He is humble, and as you get to know him, you’ll become more like him.
